He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 1998 June free agent draft.
1997
Games/Starts: 59/52...A solid first baseman who ranked sixth in first baseman
fielding in the league...Was second on the club with nine home runs, 19 doubles
and 53 RBI... Earned SEC Academic Honor Roll honors for the second time in
career...Split time between first base and DH, making 39 and 13 starts
respectively...Hit in 24 of first 25 games, beginning the season on a nine-game
hit streak that saw him connect with five-straight multi-hit games to start...Hit
.514 (18x35) with four home runs and 17 RBI during the nine-game hit streak...Hit
.408 (40x98) in first 25 games with seven home runs and 29 RBI...Finished
the season hitting only .239 (28x117) with two home runs and 24 RBI...Had
seven home runs in first 15 games and two in remaining 44 games...Named to
the Olive Garden Classic All-Tournament team after hitting .625 (10x16) with
three doubles, a home run and five RBI...He got his 100th career hit against

4/6-26, hitting .326 with 13 RBI...Hit eighth and ninth home runs in back-to-back
games against MTSU 4/9 and Kentucky 4/12...Kentucky home run came in the
ninth to send game to extra innings...Went 2-for-10 in the SEC Tournament
and 2-for-8 in the Midwest Regional with a double...Had six solo and three
two-run home runs...Had 18 multi-hit and 14 multi-RBI games...Went 2-for-4
with four RBI as a pinch hitter...Hit .286 against lefthanders, .324 against
righthanders, .308 with two-out and .272 with runners in scoring position...Had
19 two-out RBI...Played for Staunton in the Valley Baseball League where
he hit .203 with one home run and six RBI.

Games/Starts: 40/27...Struggled to find swing all season batting an
uncharacteristic .227 after earning Freshman All- America honors...Started
21 games as DH and six at first...Hit only .146 in first 12 games, with lone
highlight, a three-run home run against UNC Wilmington 2/24...Also hit a
two-run home run against Auburn 3/15 for his second of the season...Tied
his career high with four hits in four at-bats against ETSU 3/27...Saw average
rise to season-high of .273 while tying a season-high three RBI in that
game...Got two hits and two RBI against Carson-Newman 4/2...Had a season-high
four-game hit streak 3/2-9, hitting .286...Had a midseason slump of 0-for-14
from 4/12-5/3, breaking hitless string with a double against Georgia State
5/7...Went 0-for-1 in the SEC Tournament...Did not play in the Atlantic
Regional...Had five multi-hit and eight multi-RBI games...Went 0-for-5 with
one RBI as a pinch hitter...Hit .241 against lefthanders, .222 against
righthanders, .303 with two-out and .195 with runners in scoring
position...Played with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod League.

honors after hitting .314 with 55 RBI...Also named second-team All- Southeastern
Conference as the designated hitter...Made 34 starts as DH, 18 at third base
and seven at first...Began season on a seven-game hit streak...Went 2-for-2
with career-high five RBI and a triple against Eastern Kentucky...Hit first
home run and tied school record by scoring five runs against Carson-Newman...Went
4-for-5 with four RBI against ETSU...His eighth inning home run tied the
game...Had four RBI on a 3-for-5 day against Georgia...Had two doubles against
Alabama...Had another pair of doubles against UNC Asheville...Drove in five
runs in a sweep of Kentucky, including driving in the game winner in the
first game...Accounted for four RBI and the winning run in UTs 5-4
win over Radford...Hit a double in first at-bat against VMI...All three errors
came while playing third base...Broke postseason slump with 3-for-4 night
against Stanford in the College World Series with a home run...Had 22 multi-hit
and 16 multi-RBI games...Made All-Star team for the Winchester Royals in
the Shenandoah Valley League.

Attended Soddy-Daisy High School where he was among Baseball Americas
Top 100 Players (No. 77) and the top player in Tennessee...Was all-state,
all-region, all-district and all-city after hitting .403 as a senior...A
member of the 1994 All-Dizzy Dean Senior World Series Team and the Chattanooga
Free Press Area All-Star Team...Batted .380 as a junior and .400 as a
sophomore...Was honorable mention all-state in basketball, averaging 20.5
points and 11.0 rebounds...Coached by Tobin Davidson.
